Exam Access Arrangements

Specialist advice and assessment for pupils who may require access arrangements in examinations

Some pupils may require access arrangements or reasonable adjustments in examinations because of their individual needs and normal way of working.

Sutton Dyslexia Practice provides specialist advice and assessment where access arrangements, such as extra time, may be being considered.

How does the process work?

Exam access arrangements are determined by the school or college in accordance with the relevant Joint Council Qualifications (JCQ) regulations. Assessment scores alone do not automatically entitle a learner to an access arrangement.

Where specialist assessment is required, the school or college must be involved before the assessment takes place. Sutton Dyslexia Practice will liaise with the school's or college's SENDCo or appropriate member of staff to ensure the necessary evidence and documentation are in place.

The assessment findings are then provided to the school or college to support its decision about appropriate access arrangements, taking account of the learner's needs and normal way of working.
