Personalised support tailored to the individual learner
Specialist dyslexia teaching is individually planned around each learner's strengths, areas of difficulty and personal learning goals.
Sutton Dyslexia Practice provides specialist dyslexia teaching for children and young people up to the age of 18.
Sessions use structured, cumulative and multisensory teaching approaches to develop literacy skills, confidence and independent learning strategies.
Teaching programmes may focus on areas including reading, spelling, writing, phonological awareness, memory strategies and study skills, depending on the learner's individual needs and age.
Sessions are supportive and interactive, with progress reviewed regularly so that teaching can be adapted as the learner develops.
Specialist Dyslexia Teaching
How does specialist teaching work?
Specialist teaching begins with understanding the individual learner and identifying appropriate priorities for support.
Where a recent dyslexia or other relevant assessment report is available, this can be used to help inform the teaching programme. Where needed, the first session may also include focused baseline activities and error analysis to help identify an appropriate starting point. A separate screening is not required before beginning specialist teaching.
Individual targets are established and sessions are planned around the learner's needs, with progress reviewed regularly so that teaching can be adapted as the learner develops.
Sessions are normally 60 minutes and are available:
